Inspired by a legend of mythical origin, this oil depicts the tragic tale of the meeting between Atzupil, daughter of a divine emissary, and Atitlán, a being of the lake who took human form at dawn. Their bond, sealed by the light, is broken by her father's will, which alters the course of the sun and confines Atitlán to his element, turning his energy into a whirlpool. Banús transforms this story into a symbolic image of desire and loss, of the balance between the heavenly and the earthly, expressed in his characteristic visual language steeped in memory, landscape and myth.
